Our Goals
Métis Crossing will be the premiere centre for Alberta Métis cultural interpretation, education, gatherings, and business development. On this 512-acre site where Métis, European, and Aboriginal peoples have gathered for generations, you can experience the history, customs, and celebrations of the Métis people.
Situated in the Victoria District National Historic Site, Métis Crossing is Canada's first and only major Métis cultural centre. It will showcase how the Métis built trade routes, bridged cultural gaps, and opened the country to settlement that transformed Canada into what it is today.
Métis Crossing will share our Métis story with all people
We have researched that story in the usual ways, but more importantly we have relied on the wisdom and knowledge of many, many Elders who hold our history in their memories. In addition to this process, community focus groups bring their recollection and family history to complete the story.
